Like the name of the film, Any Given Sunday, go out to the lobby during the middle of the WT Study, and you'll find a handful of brothers shooting the breeze. Funny how they want kids to sit down and shut up during the meeting, but a good percentage of adults, especially elders can't be bothered to sit still for the entire meeting. Especially if the KH has lobby doors that prevent sound from the lobby to enter the auditorium when closed.

Didn't read either until the recommendation to do so here. Loved both books so much I ended up purchasing a copy of Down & Out in Paris & London, and Homage to Catalonia. He was a heluva writer. My old boss asked if she could borrow my copy of 1984, and her 1 year old somehow got a hold of it and completely dismantled it. No big deal to me because it was one of Barnes/Noble's cheap reprints. Think I only paid like $7.00 or something for it, I can't remember. Anyways she and her husband are the type of generous people that do everything big, mainly her husband. So they searched online and purchased a copy of it from like 1962 in great condition. Good people.
But yeah, the similarities between 1984/Animal Farm and the WT/JWs is striking. Have to say after that AAWA debacle I'm convinced there's more O'Briens out there than one might take for granted. Not throwing any specific accusations out there to any one particular person, but be very careful people. I'm glad this thread came up again, as it reminded me to search online for a copy of the Botting book. I mean a digital copy, PDF, Epub, etc.. Trying to avoid purchasing a physical copy of the book if I can. If someone else is aware that it exists, or can send me a link, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think both parties are possibly at fault to a degree, more so the JW. For one thing, if the JW was hired 12/14/2011, that's in the middle of holiday season. That said, he should have relayed to his potential employer that he was a JW from the get-go as it would affect his job duties. Every job interview I've ever been on there was detailed discussion about what was to be expected of me if hired. If decorating cakes was part of this baker's duties and there was going to be an issue, he was obligated to tell his potential employer what he could and could not do. I'd love to know if this JW was a born-in too considering all the material the WT has produced throughout the years encouraging JW parents to speak with teachers about the "special needs" of their children and to do so WELL BEFORE holidays or other situations come up. I was offered a job to work at a plant that manufactured all sorts of things, some of which were for the military related. During the tour of the place, my potential employer couldn't even take me throughout the entire facility because some of the work was classified. After he made the offer, I told him that I couldn't work on certain projects due to my JW beliefs, and he was ok with that as they had plenty of other projects going on other than military related.
That said, the link states that the JW was transferred on 1/8/2012, and then fired 1/21/2012. I'd love to know what transpired during those two weeks. Reflecting on my behavior at an old job, in hindsight I would have conducted myself differently. I was completely unyielding in certain situations related to being a JW and came off like an arrogant pious prick. One situation, pizza was ordered by segment of our department for the whole department, and my boss approached me to let me know that it wasn't related to Christmas. But arrogant pious asshole me allowed the holy spirit to see it for what it really was. Yep, Christmas pizza disguised as a generalized appreciation lunch!! Not only did I decline to eat any of the pizza, I went down the street and got some hot dogs and also had the nerve to come back to work and eat the hot dogs at my desk like I was rubbing it in their faces letting them know just how righteous I am. Little things like can make you look like the biggest jerk. I got sick off those same hot dogs later too, and deserved every bit of stomach woes from that situation.
That's why I wonder what happened during those two weeks. The JW probably conducted himself like a self righteous prick, probably badmouthing the boss and politicking despite having only been working there a month and a half. It's possible the boss could have been more yielding, but maybe he was when he transferred the JW. Who knows.

Working on a Sunday.

I love the logic behind the invitations. JWs are told roughly 6 months in advance at the Service Meeting when and where their District Convention will be held which often enough can be upwards of 2-3 hour drives. So they've got roughly six months to make reservations(although that's usually done the nite of the announcement), get money saved, schedule time off from work(especially for Friday!), etc.. Yet, two weeks prior to the convention, a non-JW individual or family, will recieve an invitaion by an unannounced stranger at his doorstep, to attend a three day event being held at a location 200 miles away? Ya gotta love it.
The plans of the diligent one..............
